Class Descriptions
Chinese Brush Painting

Students will learn techniques developed by Chinese masters to portray
a rich diversity of subjects from flowers, trees, bamboo, birds, animals
and insects to grand landscapes. Students will paint with ink and watercolor
on rice paper with emphasis on brush control and composition. This course
aims to harmonize classical techniques with contemporary art theories,
allowing the individual artist to adapt these universal lessons to his
or her own artistic style. This winter session will focus on blossoms
(plum, cherry, peach), crabs and morning glory.
Chinese Calligraphy

Calligraphy and painting are inseparable disciplines in Chinese art. Students
will learn ink and brush techniques and various calligraphic scripts (such
as Large Seal, Small Seal, Li, Running, Running-Grass and Grass styles)
with emphasis on Standard script. Knowledge of Chinese language or characters
is not required.
